The Jerusalem Post is reporting that Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman announced Thursday that, “Israel has solid information that Hezbollah, in close cooperation with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out the terror attack in Burgas.”
Liberman went on to say that evidence “identifies with certainty and beyond all doubt” Iran had their hands all over this attack.
This supports Wednesday’s announcement by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that “Iran was likely behind the attack” on Israeli beach-bounders on vacation in Bulgaria.
“All the signs lead to Iran. Only in the past few months we have seen Iranian attempts to attack Israelis in Thailand, India, Georgia, Kenya, Cyprus and other places,” Netanyahu said in a statement. “This is an Iranian terror campaign that is spreading throughout the world,” Netanyahu said. “Israel will react powerfully against Iranian terror.”
If you’ve been around long enough or you pay enough attention, you know international politics is just like politics here at home. Casting blame and shouting accusations are routine, mocking rivals, slight of hand and miss-information are common-place, and countries will flip sides if and when it suits them. And if you’ve been around long enough, you also know Israel plays for keeps.
The leaders and citizens of Israel are exposed to a reality of existence many Americans will never understand. In Israel, a bus ride to the library, a shopping trip at the market or a celebratory dinner out can lead to exploding bombs, shattered lives and death. Is it any wonder they have adopted a no nonsense approach to defense?
Because of this hard-line posture, many believe the ideology of Zionism is blood-thirsty, worthy only of condemnation and that it is Israel that is the cause of virtually all the problems in the Middle East. True, like every country on Earth, Israel is not guiltless but to pile the Middle East’s problems on Israel is narrow-minded and misguided. There was a time, not forgotten by our older citizens, when America, economically and militarily, played for keeps, too. And we’re surrounded by oceans, not enemies.
It is a fact that the current regime in Iran has been sticking it to Israel for a while. Based upon Netanyahu’s response to Wednesday’s bus bombing, look for Israel to start swinging their stick.
